“TRUMPET CONCERTO in Nowy Targ”
Funding value: 88 960,00 zł
Total investment cost: 99 960,00 zł
Brief description of the project:
Purchase and wide distribution of the contemporary sculpture entitled “Trumpet Concerto” by Mirosław Baca and its permanent exhibition in the lobby of the Municipal Cultural Center in Nowy Targ. The work on the subject of music, formally referring to the activities of the municipal cultural institution (concert hall, music classes) is a determinant of the city’s cultural strategy turning towards modern art as a contrast to the highlander folklore omnipresent in the region and the city that is the capital of Podhale.
The sculpture of an artist of international renown and at the same time associated with Nowy Targ becomes a bond integrating with other cultural institutions, a promise of close cooperation, a symbol of the city’s openness. It endorses the institution’s reputation and influences the increase in the level of satisfaction of residents, constitutes an identification link and distinguishes it from other public utility buildings. The abstract and universal nature of the sculpture allows for free interpretation, adding an educational function.
Date of the contract:
The sculptural composition consisting of three integral elements is part of a cycle of works inspired by classical music. Calmness, precision, tension, rhythm, balance are key concepts for the presented sculptural composition. It does not refer to specific musical works but to the structure, formal aspects and emotional substrate of music itself. Thanks to the correlation of size, tension of form, combination of natural materials, balance of weight, play of ornament and introduction of openwork elements, the presented sculpture invites the viewer to participate in the common space, encourages touch and movement between its individual parts. The sculpture, formally suggesting a brass section of music, placed at the entrance to the concert hall, a place of classical music concerts and jazz festivals, is a link between the Municipal Cultural Center in Nowy Targ and important institutions of music and art. In 2024, the sculpture was presented at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Kraków as part of the “Rondo Kraków” project.
