“Ogień i Ceramika” / “Fire and Ceramics”
RAKU workshop at Fort Kosocice

The “Fire and Ceramics” project involves the implementation of a series of open ceramic workshops using the RAKU technique, addressed to the residents of Krakow.
The workshop involves glazing ceramic biscuit molds previously prepared by the organizer and participating in a RAKU firing demonstration. Each participant decorates their chosen ceramic work using professional glazes and ceramic oxides, and then observes the entire firing process guided by the instructor.
After firing and cleaning the ceramics, participants take their finished works home the same day.
The project is educational, integrative, and artistic in nature. It provides an attractive way to engage residents through contact with ceramic art and crafts.

The RAKU method originated in 16th-century Japan and is still considered one of the most spectacular ceramic techniques in the world. Heated to nearly 1000°C, vessels are removed from the kiln with special tongs and then rapidly cooled and reduced in natural materials. The result is unique glaze cracks, metallic reflections, and unrepeatable patterns—each firing is one of a kind.
